Our outstanding team of talented craftspeople is comprised of union ironworkers and glaziers. The complexities of unitized curtain wall are familiar to us, and we understand that a combination of trades creates a composite crew that consistently delivers quality, speed of installation, and performance. For the benefit of the project and our team, we have the opportunity to draw resources from not one but two trades with specific, complementary technical knowledge and skill. This combination creates advantages relative to schedule, execution, and long-term performance of the exterior envelope​.

AWS’ goal is to start each project with a comprehensive understanding of the Owner’s expectations and the General Contractor and Design Teams’ needs. This allows our team to work in a collaborative environment to maximize efficiency and deliver solutions that meet budget, beat schedule, maximize value for our client, and exceed long-term performance objectives.

Safety

Safety is paramount at Architectural Wall Systems. We believe we have a responsibility for the safety of our team and for those whom we work with on the jobsites. Since each project is unique, our Safety team designs a custom Safety Program for each project. We work with the Project Managers and Field Superintendents to develop a Safety Plan that not only keeps our employees safe, but also helps maintain productivity.

Post Installation

AWS starts planning for the building commissioning process from our first day of involvement in the project by constantly keeping the desired result in focus. Fine-tuning the end result to an accurate description of the Performance Requirements is the most critical aspect of our preparation and process moving forward. 

Warranty management: During the warranty period, AWS provides a single point of contact with direct access to all vendors, designers, and supply chain partners.  Warranties are reviewed in detail with designated client representatives prior to occupancy, and any issues are given immediate attention to minimize the impact on the Owner.

IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT INNOVATION CENTER | AMES, IA
Iowa State University’s show-stopping new Student Innovation Center features a unique, custom pleated curtain wall system. Each unit incorporates two clear vision lites with a full-height shadow box on one side, allowing natural light into the building while reducing energy transfer. Across elevations, the pleats accordion from flat to angled, utilizing 17 different angles throughout the design. Most of our installation occurred during the snowy Iowa winter. But the pre-fabricated unitized curtain alongside a carefully coordinated site plan allowed installation to continue through the elements.​

CHILDREN'S MERCY RESEARCH INSTITUTE | KANSAS CITY, MO
The 9-story research tower for Children’s Mercy Kansas City features a custom unitized curtain wall system, diagrid feature glass, and an all-glass stair tower. Situated on “hospital hill” in the center of the Children’s Mercy campus, the new tower was constructed on top of an existing parking garage. As the design-assist partner, AWS worked closely with the design and construction teams as well as our fabrication partner, Sotawall, upfront. Our detailed project management and planning enabled our team to start enclosing the building as high floors were still being poured. We stored pre-fabricated units on each floor, then used a floor crane to set them. AWS field leadership worked with the local ironworkers and glaziers unions to staff this efficient crew.
