Design Assist

As our preferred delivery method, AWS believes collaborating in a design-assist capacity brings maximum value and efficiency to the project. Working in conjunction with the project team early allows us to provide system options and pricing alternatives that meet performance and price objectives. Our team works through the interface of various details and material options that impact thermal performance, moisture management, and life cycle cost. AWS is also equipped with a team of system designers on staff who provide BIM-based solutions, systems detailing, and interface engineering. These in-house resources allow us to expedite solutions, so your team can move forward with a full understanding of available options.

Rainscreen Technology

Because we know that moisture management is the most important consideration when looking at long-term enclosure durability for our clients, our systems utilize the latest rainscreen technology. By designing and building the enclosure correctly, we’re extending the life of the building and achieving maximum performance.

Custom Solutions

From simple to complex exterior systems, AWS delivers innovative solutions based on the individual needs of the project. We welcome a challenge, and we recognize the importance of “working for the field” — we design and deliver all our systems for ease of installation.

HDR HEADQUARTERS | OMAHA, NE
AWS was selected for the HDR headquarters as a design-assist partner. We collaborated with linked models shared on a weekly basis and held bi-weekly meetings to review details and progress. The AWS model replaced the early design intent model for construction documentation. Through the process, we performed a thermal analysis for the energy model and provided all relevant details for proper coordination. This process allowed for the simultaneous completion of shop drawing plan layouts and elevations at the end of the CD phase — saving overall schedule nearly 6 weeks of shop drawing development.

HUBBARD CENTER FOR CHILDREN | OMAHA, NE
AWS joined the team for the Hubbard Center for Children as a design assist partner at the end of schematic design. We collaborated with the design team via the BIM 360 platform. AWS worked directly in the building enclosure model replacing the content developed during SD with the proposed profiles for the curtainwall system and building enclosure. Through the modeling process, we were able to coordinate with the mechanical engineer to locate louver openings and any penetrations through the unitized curtainwall. AWS’ model also identified necessary revisions in the structural steel layout and assisted with establishing tie-ins to the existing building, which led to modifications in the expansion joints. Early identification and solving of these potential clashes not only saved the project time, but also served to protect the overall project budget.
