88,000 sq. ft. overhead glass canopy consisting of 862 mid-rion and fritted structural laminated glass lites provide a huge impact to modernizing Eppley’s Airfield accessibility and comfort. The outdoor drive up drop lanes are 100% covered by the new glass canopy system.

​The 300’ long canopy runs required intense coordination of structure deflection, thermal movements and steel fabrication/installation tolerances. Thorough analysis derived a unique linear design utilizing structural laminated glass panels that span 92” from purlin to purlin. Finite element analysis determined three different laminated glass panel thicknesses with wind uplift and/or snow drifting governing the design. The glass is linearly supported and retained by through joint “T” point clips. The system was fabricated at AWS’ facility in Gretna, NE.
