The 7th and Grand Parking Ramp is located in downtown Des Moines adjacent to the 801 Grand Principal building. Substance Architecture designed the new structure which serves as a parking ramp for the building tenants and other visitors. It also reconnects the Principal campus with the skywalk system. The building consists of six floors of parking, two stair towers, two skywalks, and a retail space.
The Weitz Company selected AWS to tackle the building’s façade. Our scope included unitized curtainwall, stick-built curtainwall, aluminum doors/hardware, ACM panels, insulated panels, and aluminum plate panels. Unitized curtainwall makes up the majority of the project, with approximately 30,000 square feet. The unitized curtainwall is a custom system designed for the parking ramp. It features various glass patterns and vertical fins. The building also features 1,500 square feet of aluminum plate panels that were drafted by AWS. The panels are a simple, face-fastened plate panel that installs as an interior base trim and an exterior panel. |
